Posted - 10/02/2005 : 10:20:12I am thinking of getting the Mirena Coil put in. I am aged 31 with 2 children aged 2.5 yrs and 4 months and I am almost certain that I don't what any more kids.
Have any of you got anything positve or negative to say about this method of contraception? Is weight gain common? I am nearly back to pre-pregnancy wieght of 9st and I don't want to gain weight. What about libido does it drop with the coil in?
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Posted - 30/01/2007 : 20:22:57Hi Everyone, I just got out my Mirena coil last week after havin it in since August'04 as I'm hoping to try for no.2! I was surprised when the gp told me it could be 18mths before I may conceive again. How soon has other people conceived or how long did you have to wait for a period to come? I had the coil fitted after i had my daughter and i thought it was great as i only had spots of blood twice over last 2.5yrs, although i never had periods much except on pill, also no cramps or anything like the pill effects. I don't know about weight gain but find it hard to lose weight since i got it in and haven't made it back down to my weight before i got pregnant (carrying an extra 7lbs). My husband reckoned my mood changed (could have been all the life changes though at time) and since i came off it my libido has soared which looking back it wasn't always that high. He said he could feel the strings but i could never feel them and had no probs from an intercourse perspective. Everyone is so different and the human body changes so much. I'm sure no drug in ur system is good but it's a hell of alot better than the pill! why isn't there a coil for men!!!!!

Im forever worrying now about it and have even convinced myself that it is gone and im pregnant cos as my family say it only takes my husband to hang his trousers on the landing and im pregnant!!. I have four children 3 under six , anyway will i have to have an operation to have it removed anyone else with this problem please let me know thanks . I only get a very light period sometimes but not every month and sometimes period pains but no period ... think its time to have the chat with the husband...snip snip snip

Posted - 18/01/2007 : 23:19:30I've got the copper coil in, it's more difficult to find someone to put it in, as the mirena is more common. However I had a bad reaction to the chemicals in the pill so didn't want any progesterone in me. I've found the copper coil brilliant, I had very bad mood swings on the pill and terrible pmt + low libido. With this there are none, apart from the fact that periods are a bit heavier. I think it's a matter of finding something that's right for you though.

Posted - 01/01/2007 : 14:41:09I have the Mirena Coil in now over 2 years and I have to say it was the best move I ever made. My periods are so light you'd nearly miss them and I didn't gain weight and my mood is as is always was and everything else is as is. I'd give it a try if I were you and just watch out for symptoms as I do know someone who had bad experience but see how you go and have it removed again if not suitable. Best of luck. J.
