I'm sure I used to know the answer to this... Anyone know what causes white spots on your nails? I know its a mineral deficiency of some sort, but can't remember which. Thanks for your help!

Hi all, just checked it out in the Dr. Gillian McKeith book ('you are what you eat'), and she says it's a classic sign of a zinc deficiency. She recommends snacking on sunflower and pumpkin seeds and taking a zinc supplement along with 1 teaspoon of liquid algae a day. (Sounds yummy!) HTH.

hi madamemac, dont mean to disagree with briannam but when my mother done a course in nails & beauty they said it was just where u might have banged ur nail & the nail raises off the bed, which is why the tips of ur nails are white. this cud be wrong & briannam cud be right but just posting something else i heard about it.

Lorlor I have heard that too! Would have stuck that into my first post, but I couldn't remember where, when or from whom I'd heard it and that's why I checked the Gillian McKeith book. I suppose if you have lots of white spots on lots of different nails over a long period of time, it might make sense that it could be a deficiency of some sort............unless of course your job includes a stapler, hammer or nail gun!!!

Hey ladies, thanks for this. I don't work with tools (unless you count some of my colleagues!! , so I reckon the zinc explanation is probably the more likely. It rang a bell anyway, so reckon I'll give that a bash and see. Come to think of it, I seem to remember a post regarding zinc being good for the bedroom department too, so even if it doesn't cure the white spots on my nails, I'll still have a smile on my face!!

Thanks girls!

Well hello Burkells! You must be dying to finish at this stage, how's it all going? Did you get any bigger since I saw you last, or have you peaked?

NYC was just brilliant, snow and all! I am now officially bankrupt - well, not quite, but the shopping was fab!

Buzz me when you finish up, would love to meet! D now crawling so might be a little bit more entertaining for E than he has been to date!

A big hug to you all!
