Hey girls

Just wondering i had my scan at 22.5 weeks and was told i am having a girl. And the doctor was absolutely certain, but now i am worried that he was wrong. It was a big scan and i could see it was a girl as there were no dangly bits and it was quiet obvious. Do they get it wrong. Am going for check up on 10th July and planning on asking again for certain

Hi Katehannah
I know they sometimes can get it wrong....mainly say its a boy when its actually a girl cause part of the cord could be dangling in the wrong place at the wrong time...if you catch my drift. I think by 20 weeks though, everything is visible so saying is a girl when its actually a boy, is much less common.. I know generally they are correct.
I think they can also tell my heartbeats per minute...can't remember exactly, but one of over 140 beats per minute, the other is under 140 bpm.
Hope this helps,

It's a good idea to check. We were told at our scan that it was "without a shadow of a doubt" a girl, then a minute later when she switched to 3D she said, hang on... nope that's a scrotum!Aso my friend has thought for the past 10 weeks it was a girl from her doc, and she just found out it's a boy this last scan.

God, that would make you wonder whether to ask at all ! I'm thinking of finding out the sex with this baby (no.3). I'd be devastated if I was told it was a boy/girl, then had the opposite, cuz I'm the type that would decorate everything pink/blue when I found out !!!

I HAVE decorated the room pink! We were told it was a girl at 21 and then again at 24 weeks (both 4D scans) with two different sonographers so I'm hoping they were right. I have another scan on Thursday (33+ weeks) so perhaps they'll get a view of the genitals again to reconfirm. I've EVERYTHING for a girl so I'm sugared if I'm told now it is a boy. Although I have a son so I have plenty of boys stuff in the attic. Who's to know really until they make an appearance into the World!

On my first pregnancy, I was scanned at 18 weeks and told it was a girl, but turned out to be a boy. Luckily I hadn't bought pink clothes or decorated the nursery pink! Second time round, I was scanned at 24 weeks and told it was a girl, which was correct. I'm waiting till I'm 24 weeks pregnant this time.
Have any of you encountered hostility from family members / friends/ members of the public for seeking out this information? I did, and it drove me crazy - I just replied "I don't like surprises and I think people are strange that don't want to know!"

Hey Tra
People were like that to me too as they said i should wait for a surprise. But with my first daughter it was cos i didnt find out . But i am now 28 weeks and found out at 22 weeks its another girl but am going again on 10th july and will ask them to reconfirm. Didnt buy much pink things but have a few things alrignt for SIL but i think i would be kinda disappointed if i found out it was a boy now as i have my heart set on a girl and the name picked and all.

I was told at 24 weeks that it was a girl and gave it 90%. I was in at 31 weeks and she told me 'I am so sorry, I was wrong - that is a scrotum' She told me it was for definate a boy and wrote it on my chart that we are expecting a boy.

I have a boy and a girl and so am just waiting now to see what this one is. DH would not hear of finding out. I would love a boy as DS is 15 months and they would be great little pals, however I would love a sister for DD... also have some fab girls clothes that I kept. 2 to 3 week to go so guess I don't have long to find out. However I just bought a few new white bits for baby in hospital.

Mumagain - was that on an ordinary scan or on 4D? Gosh, I'll get some shock if we're told tomorrow "oops it's a boy". I know I'd be disappointed because we have this little person built up in our heads - she's been named and her room awaits her. I was told at 21 wks and again at 24 wks that it was "definitley a little girl" but now I have the jeebies!! Oooooo.... Of course, putting this all in perspective, who cares what gender the baby is as long as he or she is healthy. I'm not forgetting that!

Both were just regular scans smileymum

we haven't bought anything either way and I didn't really plan on buying or decorating for the gender until after the birth anyhow. We were shocked as we had a girl's name but I am glad I asked - it gives me a few weeks to get my head around a boy's name. We are delighted either way though - this is our 3rd and my son will be just 15 months when this baby is born..so it will be lovely having 2 boys so close in age (0:

Well, I had my last big scan yesterday (33 weeks) and I was told again "it's definitley a girl". She was pointing out the labia to me and I asked "well couldn't that be a scrotum?" and she laughed and said "well possibly but there's NO willy!!" She must have thought I was mad. That's the third time we've been told it's a girl so I'm relaxing now that all my preparations were not in vain. I'm so excited to meet our little girl. She looked like she had such pudgy cheeks in the 4D and so squashed up in my tum, poor little thing.

Kate--it was a 3 D scan and I was 26 weeks. It was pretty obvious to me after she pointed it all out. I don't know why she thought it was a girl first:)
Not a blue/pink kinda gal, so I'm not too bothered that way. It's the talking to babs that does it to me! I want to know who I'm speaking to!
