Nick is Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Imperial College School of Medicine in London. Since 1992, he has been based at Queen Charlotte's Hospital, where he heads the Centre for Fetal Care, a national and international referral service for prenatal diagnosis and treatment. Nick frequently lectures abroad and is an outspoken advocate of women's choice in relation to mode of delivery.

He has published widely in the area of twin pregnancy, fetal stress and new methods of genetic diagnosis. He is the author of over 250 publications, sits on numerous editorial boards and several national committees and is a reviewer for most of the major journals and research bodies in the field.

A father of two, he enjoys travelling with his children to distant lands, especially his native Australia.

 

 

Mary Renfrew BSc RGN SCM PhD

Professor of Midwifery Studies
Director of the Mother and Infant Unit

Leeds, UK

Mary Renfrew is Professor of Midwifery Studies at the University of Leeds, and director of the Mother and Infant Research Unit there. She has worked in midwifery practice, research and education in Edinburgh, Oxford, Alberta (Canada) and Leeds. Her doctoral studies centred on ways of supporting women who wished to breastfeed, and breastfeeding has been a major area of interest for over 20 years.

Mary has also done research in postnatal care, perineal care and the organisation of maternity services, and has published widely in these fields, including clinical journals, texts for health professionals and books and articles for childbearing women. She was co-editor of the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group for six years, and still carries out reviews for this group. Mary has also worked for the legalisation of midwifery in Canada, and is committed to the development of the profession internationally.

Mary is the mother of two boys, aged 7 and 8 - both born at home, both breastfed.

 

Dr Alan Cameron MD MRCOG

Consultant Obstetrician
The Queen Mother's Hospital
Glasgow, Scotland

Alan is a Consultant Obstetrician and Head of Fetal Medicine at the Queen Mother's Hospital, Glasgow. He trained in Glasgow, Newcastle and Canada, and has published widely on the subject of high-risk pregnancy. His specialist interests are prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy.

Alan is the Scottish members' representative on the Council of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He is also a member of council of the Royal College of Midwives, a founder member of the British Maternal and Fetal Society and a member of the International Fetal Medicine and Surgery Society. He is a reviewer for the British and American Journals of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and for the Journal of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is an editor of the first international CD text of Fetal Ultrasound. His current research interest is the development of in utero keyhole surgical techniques in an attempt to improve the outcome for babies with congenital malformations.

Alan is married and has two children. He and his dog, Maisie, recently completed a coast-to-coast walk in the Scottish Southern Uplands, and he also enjoys golf, swimming and Scottish art.
